Inspiration
As young adults in college ourselves, we realize that one day we will be living independently on our own and potentially in our own homes. Realizing that some of us and our friends may lack skills that are crucial to have as home and car owners, we decided to make Mad Dad Skills to help teach those who lack the skills in such areas as finances, car maintenance, and home care.
What it does
Mad Dad Skills acts as a learning platform web application, to help young adults keep track of their progress in their knowledge for improvement of their life skills.
How we built it
After coming up with our inspiration, we conducted a market analysis to understand what currently exists on the Internet and designed the user interface using Figma afterwards. Then, using postgreSQL as our database and front end HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and various APIs, we developed a web application for Mad Dad Skills.
Challenges we ran into
Expanding our knowledge of front end web development was a learning curve, along with learning how to connect the front end with the backend database development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
During the time of this hackathon (~36 hours), we were able to develop a semi-functional web application to deploy our idea into the real world.
What's next for Mad Dad Skills
If we had more time and possibly a larger team, it would be nice to fully develop the web application and potentially integrate it as a mobile application to be fully functional with all content related to the specific learning skills.
