Inspiration

Part of a biomed engineering competition, we wanted to target people suffering from cerebral palsy and allow them to better type and interface with a computer.

What it does

The user puts on a pair of gloves and connects to a computer. Each of the glove's fingertips has a sensor to detect when pressure is being put on it. By reading the sensors, and detecting different combinations of fingers being pressed, we allow users to type as if they were using a keyboard, but with a much more efficient keyboard layout. An lcd screen provides visual feedback of whats being typed.

How we built it

Gloves: from dollar store Circuits and sensors: arduino uno kit Program: arduino on computer Conductive surface: sheet of aluminium, sanded down The components for the project were fairly simple, we attached a lead to each fingertip, which completes a circuit and outputs a signal to the arduino when in contact with the conductive surface. The microcontroller then processes the inputs.
