Inspiration
My manager wanted data from all of the Applications he supports on our team, but I quickly realized that this process could be automated.
What it does
It goes into our ticketing system and filters the data in the system in order to export information onto an excel spreadsheet. Then it formats the data into tables and graphs in order to show trends.
How I built it
I built it with my team over the course of summer 2016. We had meetings dedicated to this project throughout the summer and it was our main highlight by the end of the summer.
Challenges I ran into
I had very light experience with VBA and Macros prior to this project, but I knew it could be automated using this method and so I suggested it. It was also a challenge to debug code I hadn't had much experience with yet.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The project was a huge success. We ended up presenting the information to my current manager, my future manager, and my manager's manager. They were impressed by the outcome and were very interested in incorporating the program on their separate teams.
What I learned
I learned to use the resources around me. I knew someone on our floor who had experience with VBA and Macros and so I reached out to her for assistance and she ended up working with us throughout the whole project and was such a great help.
What's next for Macro Automation
It's currently owned by the company I interned for, but they are continuously improving it in order for it to be used by managers across the company in order to report trends to their higher ups efficiently and quickly.
