MacOS 3-Finger Swipe Redesign

Instead of swiping left-right, you scroll into layers of applications. You can see which apps are behind your current layer and quickly navigate by clicking background apps or using the dock.

Inspiration

I created this because I love macOS's full-screen feature where apps move to the "right" of your desktop, and you can swipe between them with 3-finger gestures.

What it does

A full desktop experience built in React gives the user the ability to move forward and backward between layers. You can also click the applications in the bottom dock and click background apps to move to that layer.

How we built it

Front end only, React + TS

Challenges we ran into

Smoothly scrolling between layers using Three.js Fidelity of UI designs on the desktop apps.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Fully interactive desktop experience: drag windows around, move between layers, click apps in the dock.

What we learned

Not as easy as I thought it would be! Getting the interaction just right with a beautiful UI/UX was not easy and took many iterations.

What's next for MacOS 3-Finger Swipe Redesign

Just want to receive feedback on it and hopefully Apple can implement something similar! Or perhaps I could try executing on the vision with a custom app in the mac app store!
