The Inspiration Behind MaClasse+ IA
The inspiration for MaClasse+ IA is twofold, aiming to modernize digital learning while addressing specific educational needs.
On one hand, it stems from the rapid advancement of generative AI, which offers unprecedented capabilities for analyzing and processing documents, paving the way for more dynamic and personalized learning tools.
On the other hand, MaClasse+ IA was born from challenges identified in current digital education. These include a lack of suitable tools for revision and assessment, and the necessity of creating a unified platform for students and teachers. A particularly strong inspiration for multilingual accessibility (specifically in French and Yoruba) came from a Nigerian friend who struggled in class due to a poor understanding of the language of instruction. If a platform like MaClasse+ IA had existed, he could have simply uploaded French documents and received explanations and support in his native language, allowing him to learn much more quickly.
In essence, MaClasse+ IA is the result of reflecting on how cutting-edge technologies, like AI, can foster more engaging, effective, accessible, and locally adapted education.

How We Built It
We designed MaClasse+ IA as a web application to ensure universal accessibility across various devices and platforms. The frontend is built using React with Vite and TypeScript, providing a fast, robust, and scalable user interface. For the backend, we chose Laravel, a powerful PHP framework, to handle data management and server-side logic efficiently. Crucially, we leveraged the Gemini 2.5-Flash API to power the intelligent features of our platform, enabling advanced functionalities like dynamic content generation and language processing.
Challenges We Faced
As second-year computer science students, embarking on a project like MaClasse+ IA was a huge learning curve, and we definitely hit some bumps along the way! Here are the main challenges that truly tested our budding skills:
- Multilingual Content Generation: Making sure our learning materials were not only accurate but also culturally relevant in different languages, especially in Yoruba, was a big one. It's tough to get the nuances right!
- Real-time Interactive Performance: We really wanted a super smooth and responsive experience for students, whether they were chatting or doing quizzes. Getting the platform to handle lots of users simultaneously without lagging was a constant battle.
- Complex Tech Integration: Juggling the React frontend, Laravel backend, and the Gemini API felt like orchestrating a symphony with instruments we were still learning to play. Getting them all to talk to each other seamlessly was a massive puzzle.
- Inclusive User Experience: Designing an interface that feels intuitive and welcoming for every student, regardless of their tech comfort level, was a real balancing act. We wanted to make sure no one felt left behind.
- Scalability for Growth: Even though we're just starting, thinking about how our platform would handle thousands of users in the future was daunting. Building it to grow gracefully without breaking was a significant design challenge.
