Every student learns differently, but teachers often face the challenge of identifying individual learning gaps while managing an entire classroom.

MACHTIA was created to bridge this gap: connecting teachers, students, and artificial intelligence in a continuous learning experience where technology adapts to the learner.

Our vision is simple: Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in their own way.

What it does

MACHTIA Adaptive Tutor is an AI-powered educational platform that connects teacher insights with personalized student learning.

The platform supports a complete learning cycle:

Teachers identify students who need additional support.
The system analyzes student performance and specific learning difficulties.
Teachers identify the subject, topic, and learning gap.
Personalized practice activities are generated and assigned.
Students receive interactive explanations, guided practice, and feedback.
MIA, the bilingual educational assistant, supports learning through conversation, translation, and pronunciation practice.
Learning activities adapt to student responses and progress.
Teachers review learning evidence and performance improvements.

Real Learning Demonstration

In the main demonstration, a fictional student named Mariana López begins with a diagnostic score of 52% in equivalent fractions.

After completing five guided exercises, her demonstrated performance reaches 80%, representing a 28-percentage-point improvement within the demo scenario.

This illustrates how MACHTIA connects diagnosis, personalized intervention, and measurable learning evidence.

How we built it

MACHTIA combines a modern web application with educational AI capabilities.

The platform uses Next.js, React, and TypeScript for its interactive learning environment, with an architecture supporting AI-assisted tutoring, student progress tracking, and teacher-facing educational workflows.

MIA provides a bilingual learning experience designed to help students understand concepts, practice English, and receive guided educational assistance.

We also developed an interactive Alexa+ web simulator and integrated Model Context Protocol (MCP) components to explore interoperability between educational tools and intelligent assistants.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was making AI tutoring reliable and educationally meaningful rather than simply generating answers.

We worked on guided explanations, contextual feedback, error handling, and resilience when external AI or speech services become temporarily unavailable.

We also addressed asynchronous communication issues, loading states, and service interruptions to reduce the risk of students becoming stuck during an activity.

What we learned

An effective tutor should not simply provide the correct answer. It should help students understand why an answer is correct, recognize mistakes, and continue learning.

We also learned the importance of building resilient systems that can handle interruptions in external services without compromising the learning experience.

What's next for MACHTIA

Our next goals include expanding subject coverage, improving natural voice interaction, strengthening bilingual tutoring, and validating learning outcomes with real educational users.

We also plan to improve teacher analytics, accessibility, and integration with additional educational environments.
