Inspiration

The spark behind Life Pulse came from a deeply human issue — the struggle Thalassemia patients face in finding timely blood donors. With over 100,000+ patients in India relying on regular transfusions, we realized that existing systems like e-RaktKosh , while helpful, lacked real-time intelligence, AI prediction, and a seamless user interface for both urban and rural users. We wanted to reimagine digital blood donation — making it smarter, faster, and more accessible.

What it does

Connect Thalassemia patients and general patients with nearby eligible donors in real-time Use geolocation to match blood requests dynamically Predict upcoming blood demand using AI models trained on regional data Notify donors and hospitals via SMS/email Ensure data transparency and security via Blockchain (optional module) Provide an admin dashboard for hospitals and health officials Offer a responsive and animated UI with health-focused visuals

How we built it

Frontend: Built using React.js, styled with CSS, and enhanced with V0's component AI generation Backend: Node.js and Express.js API for donor matching, request routing, and verification Machine Learning: AI prediction for demand forecasting using Scikit-learn trained on regional blood request data Database: Firebase Firestore and MongoDB for donor and hospital records Notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging and Email API integration Deployment: Hosted on Vercel, with real-time sync to Firebase Testing & Debugging: Postman for API testing and GitHub for collaboration UI Design: Canva and Figma were used for the interface and custom banners

Challenges we ran into

Matching donors dynamically in real-time while filtering by blood group, location, and last donation date Ensuring security and avoiding data misuse — especially with health data Sourcing clean and valid data to train our AI demand predictor Optimizing the UI for both mobile and desktop in a short timeframe Building a reliable notification system using multiple channels (SMS, email)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a fully functional and responsive web app within a limited hackathon timeframe Trained a machine learning model that predicts blood demand accurately based on historical data Integrated live donor matching with location-based filtering Focused specifically on Thalassemia — often overlooked in generic platforms Created a scalable foundation ready for real-world deployment Presented a UI that communicates healthcare urgency with compassion

What we learned

How to build AI-driven applications with a real social impact Designing for accessibility and trust in healthcare End-to-end development: from database design to deployment and UX Effective team coordination and role-based development under deadlines Importance of ethical data handling in health-related projects

What's next for Life Pulse

Deploy the AI predictor as a REST API for hospitals to consume directly Launch a mobile app version with biometric login for rural health workers Integrate Aadhaar-based donor verification (India-specific) Add a Blockchain module to verify every blood transaction and donor history Partner with real hospitals and blood banks to pilot the system in Chennai Expand the system to support plasma, platelet, and organ donation registries
