Inspiration
Desktop background image got boring. I wanted something more automated. What if some random dude on the internet had the power to make your desktop more dank?
What it does
Collects user submitted memes and sets one of them as your desktop. You can either MMS text a meme or upload to memecdn.net.
How I built it
Used Twilio MMS images & TwiML to get images from phone, which are then saved via PHP to an Ubuntu VM on Azure. Wrote some simple PHP for image uploading on the website. A local linux computer runs a crontab with a bash script that seeks for uploaded memes and selects the freshest and dankest one available.
Challenges I ran into
Twilio API's took a little figuring. Cron jobs created trouble.
