What it is and what it does

A text/voice-based mobile platform that keeps track of child vaccination schedules for mothers, informs them about immunization resources and connects them to partner organizations to receive rewards for getting their children vaccinated.

What it accomplishes

Gamifies vaccinations for new mothers to reduce under 5 mortality rates in rural and urban Pakistan, with branded incentives to improve the quality of care received during this critical period.

How it works

Mothers sign up for this program when they are with a community health worker or in a hospital. They will receive reminders when their children are due for vaccines and will be rewarded for getting them vaccinated. Mothers will receive bonus rewards for helping other moms to join the program and additionally for vaccinating themselves. The back-end of the application will develop a location database for target-based interventions by partner organizations.

How we built it

We used balsamiq for story boarding our product. Twilio for creating are text/voice platform for scripted responses to potential mothers. We used mongodb to develop and connect our database for recording cell phone numbers of mothers as identifiers, registering child profile, location of call and category of issue. We would ideally have a list of partner organizations with matched resources that would be provided to mothers depending on the call reason.

Challenges we ran into

The idea pivoted several times before we reached collaborative clarity as to our end user profiles, product scope and problem areas to tackle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We won PakathonNYC on October 4, 2015! and hope to make an impact at Pakathon Global on November 8, 2015. Our team has stuck together and retain both our passion and commitment towards combating child mortality in Pakistan.

What we learned

We come from very diverse backgrounds and require time to assimilate all our perceptions and ideas on the table into one cohesive strategy.

What's next for Maa Ka Darja

Our next steps will be to meet with our advisors and solidify our initial partners to revise our business model and pilot the initial program. From there, we will scale utilizing the learnings from our pilot to improve the effectiveness of our program.
