Inspiration

We are highly inspired by our users (current CCI Master's students and undergraduate CCI students) who shared with us their story when choosing a master's, their career goal, and current frustration they are experiencing with planning their master's. Understanding our users and hearing their concerns and wishes has inspired us to design the best interface that will meet their needs. We are also inspired by our user's positive feedback from our usability testing sessions.

What it does

Users are provided with two different approaches to create their masters. One approach is by selecting the three certificates you are interested in and displaying the resulting Master’s degree options, and the other approach is by selecting your preferred Master’s degree, which auto-selects the required base certificate or “concentration” and then allows you to select the other two certificates of choice. Users are supported with additional features such as "Recommendation" and "Job with this degree" that helps in their decision making for the perfect degree that aligns with their career goal.

How we built it

We started off our design by each team member presenting their initial sketched wireframe. After discussing, choosing, and combining ideas, we took it further onto the Figma application and created our interactive prototype there. We used Miro for planning and laying out all our ideas, personas and use cases.

Challenges we ran into

We faced some challenges when trying to understand the scope of the program due to how novel it is, and we also faced some challenges during our design phase due to many different use cases.

What we learned

In our team, we were able to learn a great deal about what prospective and current graduate students value when selecting a degree. No two users are the same, but it takes good design to account for the preferences of all individuals and use cases! Working remotely and collaboratively was a fun yet challenging process, filled with a great amount of communication and technical growth. In addition to learning new technologies, we have gained valuable teamwork skills throughout the entirely of this challenge, which we hope to take into our future academic and workplace experiences.

What's next?

We hope for positive feedback and to see our design make it to the CCI's website and be put to use for all future Dragons looking to pursue a Master's degree at CCI.
