Coming from an officer in a Student Organization at a University there are many issues that seem to be solved with solid communication. Sending out consistent Alerts and Reminders are a huge part of being successful. E-mails work alright, however myself, like many college students, do not prioritize checking and responding to e-mails, especially mass-emails, with our busy schedules. The next best thing would be to set up a group chat such as a GroupMe, however the important announcements can get easily buried between other posts in the giant group thread. E-mail to SMS gateways work great for sending a large group of individual texts, however you'd need to know every member in your organizations carrier, which is a hassle.
