✨ Inspiration

M’s Cases was born from a love of detective stories and classic adventure games, combined with our curiosity about how AI can transform storytelling and game design. The Chroma Awards’ focus on uniting technology and creativity, championed by sponsors like ElevenLabs, Google Cloud, FAL, Freepik, Dreamina, and CapCut, inspired us to lean into innovative workflows and celebrate the next generation of creative media.

🕵️‍♂️ What it does

M’s Cases is an interactive detective game where players help Mark the Cat solve mysterious cases, blending narrative design, logical puzzles, and immersive world-building. AI tools were used to accelerate art creation, enhance music and sound design, and experiment with narrative choices. The game invites players to explore, investigate, and piece together clues, offering a heartfelt, original story that encourages connection and problem-solving.

🛠️ How we built it

We developed M’s Cases in Unity, using C# for scripting, with significant creative and technical support from AI platforms:

  • 🎨 Art & Visuals: Freepik and Dreamina provided inspiration and base art elements, with custom editing for unique assets.
  • 🎵 Music & Sound: Soundscapes and effects were enhanced using CapCut’s audio features; AI voice acting trials (like ElevenLabs) were considered for character lines.
  • ☁️ Cloud Hosting: Google Cloud was used for version control, collaboration, and asset backups.

The workflow included traditional and AI-assisted design for puzzles, environments, and logic—all refined via Unity Play’s feedback loop.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

  • Balancing engaging, challenging puzzles while guiding players with enough clues.
  • Integrating multiple AI tools for creativity without losing originality.
  • Syncing dialogue, music, and SFX to enhance immersion and adhere to high production value.
  • Making sure the game’s theme and assets fully respected Chroma Awards’ guidelines for originality and inclusivity.

🏅 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Delivering a working and replayable “Chapter 1” detective adventure.
  • Seamlessly blending AI-driven and hand-crafted assets into a cohesive visual and audio experience.
  • Receiving positive feedback on the narrative, art style, and puzzle integration.
  • Recognized for our project’s adherence to the values of accessibility, inclusivity, and forward-thinking creativity championed by the sponsors.

🎓 What we learned

  • The importance of thoughtful narrative design and feedback-driven iteration.
  • How to maximize the benefits of AI tools without sacrificing human creativity, authorship, or originality.
  • Technical and collaborative best practices using Google Cloud and other sponsor tools.
  • The value of inclusivity, respect for intellectual property, and transparent credit for all creative contributions.

🚀 What's next for M’s Cases

  • Expanding the game with additional chapters, locations, and mysteries.
  • Deeper integration of AI for evolving story arcs and dynamic clue systems.
  • More advanced music, sound, and visual design inspired by emerging tools.
  • Ongoing engagement with the creative and game dev community for fresh feedback and collaboration.
  • Ensuring future development continues to follow the Chroma Awards’ standards for originality, creativity, and meaningful use of AI.
