Inspiration

Almost 50% of the deaths which occur in the slums are related to illnesses.These deaths can be reduced by improving easy and affordable healthcare access to to the inhabitants in these places.Our challenge is to create a mobile app that brings hospital services and other healthcare services in the palms of these people.

What it does

M-Afya is the silver bullet solution to the poor medical facilities and services in the slums.With just few clicks a user will have a virtual visit to a hospital,all these from the comfort of their houses using their phones. 1.M afya has the ability to connect doctors with patients within a click of a button 2.Doctors profile will display all the information about a doctor such as the experience and the area of specialisation,The doctors will have to submit the documents that prove they are qualified, this will eliminate all the fake doctors from operation 3.patient profile will display all the information about a user and the information can be accessed from any hospital in the world by entering the unique identification number of the patient 4.The symptoms checker will allow the user to enter symptoms and the application shall carry out data mining to find a disease that matches the symptoms 5.E-prescription will allow the doctors to prescribe medicine for patients and the app will also notify the user when its time to take medicine,this will reduce cases of skipping dosses. 6.A chat bot shall be our first line of contact,it shall handle customers even when the work hours are over,our services will be available 24/7

How we built it

At this stage we have just drawn drafts of how the app should work,we have not yet built it.The app should have AI and analytics feature to track the number of users in the app,what features they use and the time they spend in the app.This information shall help app developers to adjust the app based on market needs

Multiple interviews have been done to identify critical healthcare needs of the people in slums and possible solutions to the challenges have been formed in form of an application

What we learned

In recent times,there has been a rise in the number of mobile phone health applications,the applications greatly improved healthcare in the targeted regions.We used the information learned from such apps to come up with our application

What's next for M-AFYA APPLICATION

We seek to develop a fully operational app fromm our idea here and also introduce a USSD code to make this application accessible to people who dont have smartphones.
