The Problem

Non-native English speakers who learn to sing English songs often struggle with natural pronunciation — not because they don't know the words, but because they don't know how the words actually sound when sung. Phenomena like liaison (linking sounds), weak forms, and elision are rarely taught explicitly, yet they're what separates a stiff performance from a natural one.

Most learners resort to hunting for manually annotated lyric sheets scattered across forums and social media — time-consuming, inconsistent, and only available for popular songs.

The Solution

LyricFlow is an AI-powered pronunciation annotation tool built with MeDo. Users enter any song title and artist name, and LyricFlow:

  1. Retrieves the lyrics automatically
  2. Analyzes every line using AI
  3. Returns a beautifully annotated lyric sheet with four types of markers:
    • Liaison (连读): continuous underline bridging linked words
    • Weak form (弱读): phonetic subscript showing reduced pronunciation
    • Elision (吞音): red × marking dropped sounds
    • Stress (重读): bold text for emphasized syllables

Who It's For

  • Non-native English speakers learning to sing English songs
  • Language learners who want to understand natural spoken English rhythm
  • Vocal coaches who need quick pronunciation references
  • Anyone who's ever wondered why English songs sound so different from how the words are written

Built With

  • MeDo — full application built and deployed on MeDo platform
  • DeepSeek API — powers lyrics retrieval and AI annotation
  • Pronunciation linguistics — liaison, elision, weak form, and stress rules applied systematically line by line

Impact

The global market for English language learning exceeds 1.5 billion learners. Singing is one of the most effective and enjoyable methods for language acquisition — yet no tool has automated pronunciation annotation for song lyrics until now. LyricFlow fills that gap.
