🚀 Inspiration
Sometimes you don’t need advice — you just need to vent. Lyo was inspired by that raw, unfiltered need to talk to something when the world feels too much. It’s built to be an AI companion that listens without judgment, gives back just enough, and wraps it all in a nostalgic, pixel-styled vibe.
🤖 What it does
Lyo is an AI-powered web companion where users can rant, think out loud, or just talk freely. It doesn’t pretend to be human — it’s just there to listen, respond thoughtfully, and hold space for whatever’s on your mind.
🛠 How we built it • Frontend: React + Vite for fast, modular dev. • Styling: Custom CSS with a pixel/cartoon-inspired aesthetic. • AI: OpenAI API integration with prompt tuning for emotional tone. • Deployment: Hosted on Netlify for smooth delivery.
🧩 Challenges we ran into • Tuning the AI to sound chill, not clinical. • Managing long user rants without losing context or performance. • Balancing nostalgia in the design without overdoing the visuals. • Building emotional UX while staying tech-focused.
🏆 Accomplishments that we’re proud of • Built a fully working AI companion from scratch. • Achieved a consistent visual identity and vibe. • Created a space where users can be real without pressure. • Learned to merge emotional design with technical architecture.
📚 What we learned • Good AI UX isn’t about answers — it’s about tone and presence. • Prompt engineering is an art, especially for open-ended convos. • Even chill apps need serious architecture behind them. • Emotional products require emotional resilience during dev.
🔮 What’s next for Lyo • Add journaling mode and mood tracking. • Build in simple avatar reactions (pixel AI face maybe?). • Explore voice input/output for hands-free convos. • Open it up to user-generated prompt personalities.
