Inspiration

Most period and health apps only track. They show you numbers but never tell you what to do next. For people with PCOS, irregular periods, menopause, fertility goals or pregnancy, that leaves a gap between medical advice and daily life. Lunora was built to close it: not just tracking, guiding.

What it does

Lunora turns general medical advice into a simple daily routine.

  • Personalised plan: a short profile (age, diet, activity level, goals) creates a five-step daily plan with a progress bar and streak
  • Daily log: mood, skin, sleep, water, weight, period days and high-sugar days
  • Insights: shows how your habits connect to how you feel
  • Cycle calendar: period, expected period, fertile window, ovulation and PMS days
  • Meal checker: search a food, or scan a photo of your meal with AI for a green, red or unsure verdict with a kind one-line reason
  • Community: anonymous posts where people share what worked for them
  • Doctor report: a printable summary you can save as a PDF and take to an appointment

How we built it

  • Front end: HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript
  • Back end: Supabase (Auth and Postgres), with Row Level Security so every user's data stays private
  • Meal scanner: a Supabase Edge Function that sends the photo to Claude (Anthropic API) and returns a simple verdict
  • Hosting: GitHub Pages

Challenges we ran into

  • Keeping health data private, which we solved with Row Level Security on every table
  • Making the community anonymous, which we solved with a feed view that hides user IDs
  • Cycles can be irregular, especially with PCOS, so we label predictions as estimates and not medical advice

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A complete, working app with sign-up, a personalised plan, a cycle calendar, a community and an AI meal scanner, all live on a public link.

What we learned

How to design for sensitive health data, how to connect a static front end to Supabase, and how to call an AI model safely from an Edge Function without exposing the API key.

What's next for Lunora

  • Smarter, more personalised insights as people log more days
  • Reminders and notifications
  • More languages
  • Partnerships with doctors and dietitians for reviewed guidance

Disclaimer

Lunora gives general lifestyle guidance, not medical advice. Please talk to your doctor about diagnosis and treatment.
