As the first day of Lunar New Year occurred this past Tuesday, we were inspired to look further into this holiday. We found that while each of our families celebrate it, they do so in different ways, and we wanted to see the even more diverse ways this event is honored. Thus, we aimed to represent the variety of traditions performed at Lunar New Year events with our project, hoping to both learn more about a holiday we all celebrate, and share the experiences with others.

Throughout the process, we not only learned much about Lunar New Year festivities, but also many new technical skills that were previously foreign to many of us. All of us have different levels of experience, and it was challenging to come up with an appropriate project that we can all contribute to. We initially planned to develop a web application since most of us had prior experience with web development. However, we wanted to make HackSC a learning experience and challenge ourselves to something new, so we decided to make a mobile iOS application instead. We pushed ourselves to learn the basics of Swift, an entirely new language for most of us. To put it bluntly, learning a new framework was a challenge. Fortunately, everyone on the team is cooperative and communicative, and with a push of perseverance after stumbling about, we crafted our app LunarRound. The Lunar New Year is celebrated in so many different countries that we sadly could not include them all in our app; we hope to refine LunarRound by adding more information about all these countries in the future.
