Inspiration

As human space exploration expands, from missions led by organizations like NASA to future commercial lunar travel, the need for real time personal safety systems becomes critical. LunaBand was inspired by a simple question: what does everyday safety look like on the Moon? Radiation exposure, oxygen levels, and circadian disruption are not rare risks in space. They are constant conditions that need continuous monitoring in a simple, wearable form.

What it does

LunaBand is a wearable concept designed for astronauts and future lunar travelers. It monitors key survival metrics such as radiation exposure, SpO2, vital signs, and environmental safety. The system visualizes safe and unsafe zones, alerts users to dangerous exposure levels, and helps maintain physiological stability in extreme environments like the lunar surface.

How we built it

This is a proof of concept built using a mix of AI design tools and frontend development. The concept video and visuals were created with Slidebits AI Playground. An interactive simulator was built using React to demonstrate how users would interact with the device in real time. The focus was on creating something that feels like a real product experience even without physical hardware.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was creating a believable product demo for something that does not physically exist. Maintaining consistency across AI generated visuals required multiple iterations and careful direction. Another challenge was finding the right niche and balancing a futuristic concept with something that still feels practical and grounded.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how sleek and cohesive the simulator and concept video turned out. The experience feels like a real product rather than just an idea. Translating complex concepts like radiation exposure and biometric monitoring into a clean and intuitive interface was a major accomplishment.

What we learned

We learned about space health constraints, especially around SpO2 monitoring and radiation exposure. We also learned how to combine AI generated design with traditional frontend tools, and how to simulate real world interactions for a product that does not yet exist.

What's next for LunaBand

Next, we plan to learn more about how advanced biosensing systems collect and process real time blood and oxygen data.
