Inspiration
Luna’s Awakening was inspired by Doki Doki Literature Club, which is a horror visual novel game that takes you through a twisted storyline as characters get killed off one by one. We thought of this game because the theme for Hopper Hacks this year is Alice in Wonderland, which is known for its twisted tales and lessons. Instead of killing off characters, we decided to create a character in a simulation who becomes self aware over the course of the game, giving the player a trippy and unique experience.
What it does
Luna’s Awakening is a storyline game that draws you into a trippy day-in-the-life of a girl(Luna) who wakes up and realizes she is in a simulation. The story is told from the POV of Luna’s roommate, who watches and helps as Luna undergoes a series of challenges and realizations to leave the simulation.
How we built it
We built this game using Godot(a game engine), our own twisted fantasy storyline, and pixel images that we drew from scratch to create the characters and backgrounds.
Challenges we ran into
Develop a story that is both entertaining and logical. As well as debugging our program on Godot.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the excellent storytelling and graphics in our project. Our team spent a lot of effort and thought on how to bring a fun playing experience to the players through character dialogues, graphics, and sound effects.
What we learned
How to use Godot for event transition.
What's next for Luna's Awakening
Add more options for the players to choose from and the corresponding consequences.
