Inspiration

We love sports events, but finding someone to share the excitement with isn’t always easy. We created a fun and simple way to connect with others who have similar interests.

What it does

Lumora makes it easy to find your people. With just a few taps, users can explore upcoming events and connect with others who are just as excited to go.

How we built it

We built Lumora as a cross-platform mobile app using Expo Router and Tamagui to deliver a great user experience. On the back-end, we used MongoDB Atlas along with semantic search capabilities to match users to events.

Challenges we ran into

We had some challenges in integrating authentication for our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re incredibly proud of building our mobile app during the hackathon. We also successfully implemented semantic search, which made the experience feel smart and intuitive. The app is fun, fast, and meaningful—and we did it in just one weekend!

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of mobile app development, design systems like Tamagui, and working with semantic search technologies. We also gained hands-on experience with managing state, routing in mobile apps, and building user-friendly features under tight time constraints.

What's next for Lumora

Next up, we’re expanding semantic search to include people—so users can not only find events they love, but also get matched with others who have similar passions. We also plan to add real-time chat, better friend discovery features, and more social integrations to make attending events as fun and social.
