Inspiration

The spark for LumiNation came from a staggering realization: public lighting currently accounts for 50% to 75% of municipal energy bills. Walking through our cities at night, we noticed a chronic inefficiency—static systems keep lights burning at full intensity even when streets are completely empty.

We realized that while cities want to be "smart," they are often held back by the massive cost of replacing infrastructure. We wanted to solve this paradox. Our inspiration lies in transforming passive, wasteful infrastructure into an intelligent, proactive network that aligns with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities). We didn't just want to change the lightbulb; we wanted to change how the grid thinks.

What it does

LumiNation is an AI-driven "Universal Management Module" that retrofits existing streetlights to make them intelligent.

Predictive Dimming: Unlike standard motion sensors that react blindly, our system analyzes vehicle and pedestrian flow in real-time. It adjusts lighting intensity dynamically—dropping to 10-20% during inactivity and ramping up smoothly when movement is predicted.

The "Light Corridor" Effect: Using a mesh network, poles communicate with their neighbors. As a car approaches, the lights ahead brighten in sequence, ensuring safety without wasting energy behind the vehicle.

Grid Guardian: Beyond lighting, the module acts as a diagnostic tool for grid operators (like E-REDES). It monitors electrical anomalies to detect burnouts or maintenance needs instantly, shifting operations from reactive to proactive.

The Result: We reduce energy waste by 40-65% and drastically cut carbon footprints without ever compromising road safety.
