Inspiration

Many students know what career they want but struggle with how to get there. With so many resources available, finding the right learning path and gaining real-world experience can be overwhelming. We built LuminAI to act as an AI-powered career mentor that guides users from learning to becoming job-ready.

What it does

LuminAI helps users prepare for their dream careers by providing:

  • Personalized career roadmaps
  • AI-generated learning plans
  • Mock interviews
  • Resume feedback
  • Interactive workplace simulations
  • Progress tracking It combines career guidance and practical preparation into a single platform.

How we built it

We built LuminAI using React, Tailwind CSS, Node.js, Express.js, and MongoDB. We integrated the OpenAI API to generate personalized roadmaps, interview questions, career advice, and workplace simulations. User authentication is handled securely using JWT.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was designing AI prompts that produced accurate and personalized responses. We also had to balance feature development with the limited hackathon timeline while ensuring a smooth user experience.

  • Successfully integrated AI into multiple features.
  • Created a scalable foundation that can be expanded with more career tools.

What we learned

We learned how to integrate large language models into a full-stack application, improve prompt engineering, and rapidly build and prioritize features during a hackathon.

What's next for LuminAI

We plan to add voice-based mock interviews, ATS resume analysis, coding assessments, LinkedIn and GitHub integration, job recommendations, and more advanced progress tracking to make LuminAI a complete AI career companion.
