Inspiration

Lumina was created to revolutionise the way people interact with AI technology on their personal devices. The inspiration came from the need for a more comprehensive and accessible platform that integrates the power of Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI tools in one place. We wanted to build a solution that could unleash the full potential of AI-driven conversations across various devices, including mobile phones, tablets, desktops, and even smart TVs. How we built it

Lumina was built using LLaMA 3 as the foundation model, the latest innovation from Meta’s research team. We integrated Ollama and its library to create a platform that could handle various AI models, including DALL-E, MidJourney, ChatGPT, and Mistral. By incorporating document templates and a user-friendly interface, we enabled users to create and deploy custom AI bots and tools easily. Lumina also supports multimodal capabilities, allowing users to combine image and text prompts, generate and edit videos, and create richer content.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was the integration of multiple AI models into a single platform. Ensuring compatibility and seamless operation of different models required significant effort and technical expertise. Additionally, building an intuitive interface that caters to users with varying levels of technical knowledge was a challenge. Limited funding also restricted our ability to implement the offline functionality we envision for Lumina, which remains a goal for the future.

Another significant challenge was hosting Lumina locally on each user’s device. Running advanced AI models on personal devices demands substantial computational resources and optimized performance to ensure smooth operation. We had to innovate around optimizing the models for different hardware configurations and ensure that they could run efficiently on various devices, from smartphones to desktops.

Limited funding also restricted our ability to implement the offline functionality we envision for Lumina, which remains a goal for the future.

I am proud to have created a versatile and powerful platform that democratises access to advanced AI technology. Lumina’s ability to integrate various models, support multiple modalities, and provide a user-friendly experience is a significant accomplishment. We are also proud of our commitment to privacy, offering end-to-end encryption and user-controlled data to ensure maximum security for our users.

A Vision for the Future

One of the standout features of Lumina is its planned ability to operate offline, without an internet connection. Imagine having a supercharged version of Google that works without internet access. This is particularly significant given that approximately 1.7 billion people worldwide have mobile phones but no internet access. With Lumina, these users can unlock the power of advanced AI models and templates, revolutionizing their access to technology.

Incorporating this offline capability will position Lumina as a game-changer, offering unprecedented accessibility and functionality. Users will enjoy a comprehensive suite of tools and resources, from creative art generation to sophisticated AI-driven conversations, all available anytime, anywhere.

However, due to limited funding, we are currently unable to implement this feature. It remains a vision for the future, one that we are committed to realizing as we continue to grow and secure the necessary resources.
