Inspiration
We wanted to create a system that protects vulnerable individuals like the elderly or disabled who might not be able to call for help during emergencies. Our goal was to make city safety more inclusive, affordable, and automated.
What it does
LumiHome monitors temperature, humidity, and water levels using ESP32 sensors. It sends real-time data to Firebase and alerts family members and emergency services when danger is detected. It also stores family details (age, health issues) to help responders prioritize rescues.
How we built it
We used ESP32 with multiple sensors to collect live data. The data is transmitted to Firebase Realtime Database. Our Android app fetches and displays the data while triggering alerts through Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating multiple sensors and real-time database updates was complex. Managing emergency alert logic and user data simultaneously required optimization. We also faced time constraints to fully implement advanced AI and voice-assist features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working prototype that detects hazards and sends automatic alerts. Created a solution that’s inclusive, low-cost, and impactful for public safety. Successfully connected ESP32, Firebase, and the app in real time.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate IoT hardware with cloud databases efficiently. Understood real-time communication, automation design, and the social impact of tech. We also gained insights into how smart systems can enhance urban resilience.
What's next for LumiHome
Add AI-based predictive alerts and voice-assist features for accessibility. Develop city-wide IoT safety networks to connect multiple homes. Collaborate with emergency service providers for real-world deployment.
