Inspiration

Although I’m not a designer by title, I have a deep appreciation for outstanding design. I also love documenting things—not just in text but through phrases, music, or even drawings (as I’m a classical music and art enthusiast). It’s been tough to find an ideal app that caters to these needs.

This app came to life after I read the book Puppy Money. There’s a concept in the book called the "success journal" that resonated with me: tracking the things you succeed in doing, and understanding that even failures are part of success. Such reflections lead to growth.

That’s when I started planning to create this app. Success is built on hope, which is why I initially chose bright yellow as the theme color. However, the project slowly evolved as I considered various commercial elements, ultimately becoming what is now Lumi Note. There are still many interesting design and functional ideas in my head that I plan to implement.

What it does

Record anything.

  • Record Anything: Jot down your thoughts, ideas, and inspirations in various formats.
  • Card-Based Planning: Build and track long-term goals through a visual card system.
  • Create Galleries: Capture daily visuals—your art or photos that reflect your mood.
  • More Features Coming Soon

How we built it

I enjoy experimenting with new things, so I chose SwiftUI for development. The design process started in Figma.

Challenges we ran into

This was my first attempt at building an app, so managing performance issues was a major challenge. SwiftUI has some strange bugs that drove me crazy at times. UI design was another hurdle—I redesigned the entire UI multiple times in Figma.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m really proud of the final UI design for Lumi Note. It’s lightweight and easy to use right out of the box. Completing this app as a solo developer was a milestone for me, and I couldn’t be happier than when I gained my first users.

What we learned

Throughout Lumi Note’s development, we learned the importance of user feedback in shaping the app’s features and design. Iterating based on real user experiences allowed us to refine the app to better meet their needs. We also gained valuable insights into optimizing performance and managing complex data structures to enhance the overall user experience.

What's next for Lumi Note

The most important goal: introducing AI to make Lumi Note more convenient, with summarization features and analytical insights. AI will also provide detailed guidance for your plans based on the analysis of your records. A new page: a special area (with a standout UI) where you can reflect on and document meaningful experiences. Theme customization (because nothing beats personalizing your space). Interaction optimization (there’s still a lot of room for improvement in terms of interactivity).
