Inspiration
I wanted to create a relaxing but addictive tycoon game that combined the charm of cute characters with the satisfaction of chopping trees and collecting resources.
What it does
Players chop trees, earn coins, and collect colorful gems to upgrade their tools, workers, and unlock new areas.
How we built it
I built it in Horizon Worlds using custom UI elements, TypeScript logic, and persistent variables to save progress. Every mechanic — from tree regrowth to gem trading — was scripted to run smoothly for both VR and mobile users.
Challenges we ran into
Optimizing for both platforms while keeping visuals cute and performance stable was tough. Also, balancing the economy between effort and reward took multiple iterations to feel fun without grinding players to death.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a seamless, visually charming world with smooth mechanics, multiplayer compatibility, and a satisfying gameplay loop. Seeing players enjoy the game and explore it together was the real win.
What we learned
We learned a lot about player pacing, how to layer upgrades without overwhelming players, and how important clear visual feedback is for casual games.
What's next for Lumberjack Tycoon 2
More bird species, new biomes, co-op tasks, and mystical creatures with powers that affect the game world. And maybe Lumberjack Tycoon 3 someday
