Inspiration
Digital photo galleries are convenient but often feel cold and disposable. We wanted to bring back the warmth and ritual of viewing printed photos through analog devices, while keeping everything digital.
What it does
LumaPane transforms your photo library into realistic analog-inspired viewing experiences. Instead of scrolling through grids, users can enjoy their memories in interactive photo books, slide projectors, film holders, calendars, train windows, and more.
How we built it
We built LumaPane as a native iOS and iPadOS app using SwiftUI. We combined realistic 3D-inspired rendering, custom animations, gesture interactions, and Apple’s latest AI frameworks to create natural, immersive viewing experiences while keeping all photos private on the device.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was making every viewer feel authentic. We spent countless iterations refining proportions, materials, lighting, page-turning animations, and interactions so each viewer behaves like its real-world counterpart instead of a simple photo frame.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
We’re proud that LumaPane creates an emotional experience rather than just another photo viewer. Every template has its own personality, making digital memories feel tangible again while preserving user privacy through on-device processing.
What we learned
We learned that people don’t just want to store photos—they want meaningful ways to revisit them. Small interaction details and realistic presentation can dramatically change how users experience the same memories.
What’s next for LumaPane
We’re expanding the collection of analog-inspired viewers, introducing AI-powered album creation and storytelling, supporting more platforms, and making it even easier to relive memories in beautiful, immersive ways.
