About the Project – Luma: Healthcare Made Simple on WhatsApp

Inspiration

Visiting hospitals in India can feel overwhelming endless queues, rushed consultations, and patients leaving without proper care. Doctors do their best, but the system is stretched thin and unplanned. Our inspiration came from real stories of people losing entire days waiting for medical attention.

We asked ourselves: What if patients knew exactly when their turn would come, and doctors could focus on care instead of managing chaos? That idea led to Luma.

What We Learned

  • Healthcare is not just about treatment it’s about accessibility and dignity.
  • AI can serve as a bridge between people and complex systems.
  • Familiar platforms like WhatsApp can create massive impact without new apps or training.
  • Responsible AI means balancing automation with trust and privacy.

How We Built It

We created Luma as a prototype AI agent on WhatsApp:

  1. Patients send requests through WhatsApp.
  2. Luma interprets the request using AI models.
  3. The system simulates hospital databases to book or track appointments.
  4. Doctors mark visits as complete with one click.
  5. Patients receive real-time updates and reminders.

In short, Luma turns hospital chaos into care clarity.

Challenges

  • Data fragmentation – simulating multiple hospital record formats.
  • User accessibility – designing for all levels of digital literacy.
  • Queue prediction – estimating wait times dynamically.
  • Privacy & trust – ensuring sensitive data stays protected.
