Inspiration
“Lullaby (Aquarium)” was inspired by the quiet, mystical tone of Boris Grebenshchikov’s lullaby and the emotional space it opens. The song doesn’t lull a child to sleep — it leads the listener into a threshold state between waking and dreaming. I wanted to visualize that inner twilight, where memory, myth, and subconscious imagery begin to merge, and where a lullaby feels less like music and more like a portal into the soul’s night garden.
What it does
The film immerses the viewer in a soft dream-realm shaped by sound, symbolic figures, and natural elements. Through shifting light, nocturnal landscapes, and archetypal companions (a child, a fox, an owl), it invites the audience to drift into a state of inner being — not observing the dream, but inhabiting it.
There is no spoken narrative. Emotion, sound, and image carry the experience.
How we built it
Structured visual language around the rhythm and emotional arc of the lullaby
AI-assisted visual generation guided by manual art direction, iterative refinement, and compositing Custom analog-inspired grain, twilight color palette, and film-texture layers Symbol-driven image design (childhood innocence, animal guardians, forest as myth-boundary, celestial light) Slow pacing, pulsing illumination, atmosphere-driven transitions
Challenges we ran into
Preserving the spiritual tone of the original song while creating new imagery Making AI-generated material feel human, intimate, and emotionally grounded Avoiding literal storytelling in favor of experiential clarity Balancing aesthetic refinement with dream-like softness and intuition
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Created a visual lullaby that feels contemplative, sacred, and emotionally honest Developed a symbolic cinematic language bridging music, myth, and subconscious imagery Kept the film deeply personal without relying on dialogue or explicit narrative Received meaningful emotional resonance from early viewers
What we learned
The absence of words can amplify emotional presence AI becomes a powerful medium when it enhances inner worlds rather than replacing them Stillness and silence, used intentionally, can speak louder than action Memory and imagination share the same light
What's next for Lullaby (Aquarium)
This lullaby continues — evolving into an ongoing exploration of night, memory, and inner light.
