Inspiration
Gamers and Streamers on Twitch need easy access to dope music. There's a lot of silence on Twitch streams while exciting gameplay is going on. Hip Hop, EDM, and Rock music helps elevate the entertainment experience.
What it does
Lucy Music is a Twitch extension with access to royalty free Electronic, Hip Hop, and Rock Music. Viewers can tip the artists and streamers if they like a song. Viewers can pay Bits to enable their playlist on a stream for everyone to hear. This is an interactive music experience.
Note: Future iterations can build real time music compositions using AI, game flow, and user data points.
How I built it
We used the Twitch Developer Toolkit and Sandbox to write HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I added a panel that allows users to play royalty free music. The goal was to deliver functionality without encroaching on the streaming experience.
Challenges I ran into
The Hello World took a bit longer than I was hoping which meant I needed to hustle to get the extension complete. After working with the Twitch developer advocate I was able to get the extension up and running within 2 hours.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This was my first time in using the Twitch developer kit. I'm proud that we were able to get audio to play during a stream. Not just any stream, our demo will be playing over the Capitol360 Twitch livestream.
What I learned
Twitch gives developers a lot of cool tools to implement extensions. Improving the viewing experience with simple functionality is the key to successful extensions!
What's next for Lucy Music
Winning the Twitch developer prize would be a great way for us to get the word out about our extension! 100,000 Bits would be the perfect fuel to help us launch!
