Inspiration

Theme: Giving Back Problem statement: Volunteering is one of the best ways to give back to our community. What creative ideas do you have to make volunteering easier, widespread, and more beneficial to those in need?

What it does

Our hack is a volunteer-to-organisation matching application that allows potential volunteers to seamlessly find out more about available volunteering programmes, donation opportunities, and the different charity organisations hosting them. As the user participates in volunteering programs, points will be collected which can be traded for third-party donations. The point awarded to users is based on the hours put into volunteering. As many would argue that volunteerism should not be done with the mindset of receiving something in return, the point system does not reward users but instead, different charities. We have decided to approach big organizations to pledge and donate when users exchange their points. The users can choose to donate to their desired charities. (E.g for every 50 points collected, they can be converted into a donation voucher funded by a sponsor, to a charity organisation of their choice.) Featured charity organisations will be showcased for a particular time period (Cancer Awareness Day, etc)

How we built it

The problem statement wants to make volunteering easy, widespread and more beneficial.

Hence, we have implemented the following features accordingly: Easy - lets volunteers easily find the different volunteering opportunities around them, a map function is also added for geographical convenience Widespread - volunteering opportunities are shareable amongst friends and connections Beneficial - an indicator will show the volunteers which programs have sufficient volunteers and which ones don’t
