Inspiration
I was inspired to build this project by my early experiences creating interfaces and tools that improve people’s daily lives. Lucid allowed me to apply that passion to a community that often doesn’t receive enough recognition or support, and to design something that could make a meaningful difference for a wide range of users.
What it does
Lucid is a browser extension designed to help users with a variety of disabilities navigate the web more easily. It offers tools that support cognitive, visual, and attention‑related needs, from simplifying text and improving readability to reducing distractions and enhancing clarity across any webpage.
How I built it
I built Lucid using my strong understanding of how HTML and JavaScript work together, which powered the majority of the features. CSS handled the styling for the entire interface, ensuring the menu and UI were clean, accessible, and easy to use. Each component required careful coordination between these languages to create a seamless experience.
Challenges I ran into
There were many features I wanted to include, but time and technical limitations meant I had to prioritize. For example, I hoped to implement a more advanced epilepsy‑prevention system, but the constraints of browser extensions made it unfeasible within this project’s scope.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I’m especially proud of how well several complex features turned out, including the color‑blind filters, the element‑removal tool, and the AI‑powered capabilities. These were some of the most challenging parts of the project, and seeing them work smoothly was incredibly rewarding.
What I learned
I learned the importance of pacing myself and not trying to build everything at once. Starting too big can lead to wasted time and unnecessary frustration. Focusing on achievable goals first made the project far more manageable and successful.
What's next for Lucid
I plan to continue expanding Lucid with additional accessibility tools, such as improved screen‑focusing features and a more effective method of reducing epilepsy triggers. I also hope to integrate a more powerful AI API to enhance the accuracy and usefulness of the cognitive‑support tools.
