Inspiration

In these days most of schools around the world are closed for coronavirus and it has made lots of troubles. Parents are suddenly faced with the problem of keeping their children occupied at home. The question is, how can they keep their kids busy (and learning) during the period of quarantine?

That's why I have created this application, to help parents. Wherever they work, at home or at office, they still can keep an eye on their children, make sure they're doing well. I named this application LoveU3000. As you may know, "I love you 3000" is a quote that originated from Avengers: Endgame. In the movie, the daughter said that to Iron Man - I love this scene so much.

What it does

It help parents to give their kids some specific missions, some tasks need to be done. Example: clean the house, do homework or feed the pet. When children finish a mission, they will earn some points which they can convert into the gifts later. These kinds of activities will teach kids about labor and also why their parents or everyone need to work. Children also can learn about how to save money for a bigger purpose. Parents can create tasks for the whole day, and at the end of each day, all members of a family can review these tasks together.

If you're working at office and your children have a smartphone, you can track in real time the tasks your children just have finished. That's the way you are able to know your children are still safe and working hard. And you can send them some words of encouragement or add some photos after each task.

You can also send your children certain emoticons through the app, like a hug, love or sad emoticon about something they did. Any emoticon will demonstrate your children the way you care of them. But I suggest you to send more of positive emoticons than the negative ones to encourage the children.

How I built it

I got this idea long time ago. I want to teach my kid about how to make money and use money effectively. But now, when the coronavirus occurred, it makes me think and react quickly. I’ve been creating this app for one month and it's almost done by now. I asked lots of my friends to test it and they were really excited to try. So, I think a lot of parents in the world can use this app to have a better connectivity with their children, not only in coronavirus time but long after. I choose Flutter because it's easy to learn and I can build both android and ios app. I also use Firebase with Cloud functions and Firestore as database. I used Firebase before and it's working great.

Challenges I ran into

This is my first mobile application. It's challenge to learn new language ( Flutter ) from scratch. And when you work alone, you need so much patience, to complete every small details.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The best thing in this case is that the application is like a diary between you and your children. After few years, you can review all the memories you had together. You can see how your children grow up, step by step. These memories are priceless.

What I learned

I read many books and articles about how to teach kids about labor and save money and use money. I don't have kids right now, but it's good experiences for me in future. But, LoveU3000 is just a tool, for parents to easy tracking children activities. I mean, everyone can have their own way to use this app, because every kid is deferent.

What's next for LoveU3000

I'm trying to upload my application to Apple Store and Google play right now, and I hope it'll be available for download soon. I still have many idea for this app, the main purpose is to connect children with their parents.
