Problem Statements

Tasmania’s tourism industry is booming as both local and international tourists are turning to nature for their holidays, providing huge opportunities for businesses. Tourism $3.2 billion (10.3%) Gross State Product (GSP) directly and indirectly in Tasmania, highest in Australia. Tourists spent around $2.49 billion on accommodation, attractions, tours, transport and other goods and services during this period. This represents an average spend of $1,884 per visitor. Although booking or scheduling event through a travel agent is a common way of planning a trip, however, travel agents are often unreliable, and the trip might not even turn out to be as you expected. Most people want their trip to be flexible, but it can be time consuming to change schedule if they book through travel agents. Planning and researching about all the places from different websites can be extremely time consuming and confusing. Hence, we are introducing this application called LoveTrip which aims to change the traditional travel agents with AI travel agents who will better understand your needs and provide all in one solution at a competitive rate.

Inspiration

Most of us at some point faced difficulties in changing their tickets or hotel rooms. The process is time consuming and expensive. When we don’t have enough information about a place, we end up going places you are not interested in seeing and spoil you whole day there. For instance, you are not a fan of trekking and prefer to go to picturesque beaches. You are planning a trip to Bruny Island and want to spend more time in the beach rather than going for trekking; but that is not always the case if you book your trip with travel agents as they will schedule for you to see all the places in Bruny rather than spending more time in the beach. Therefore, we came up with the idea of this application which will act as you agent and book/plan your trip as per individual’s preference within their budget. The plan will be flexible and as per the customer’s taste so that they can have the best time of their life wherever they go.

What it does

The home page of the app will advertise and show various places of Tasmania. Customers can sign in or sign up just like any other application using by providing email, full name, phone number (optional). After that, they will start planning their trip by providing detailed personal information such as age, budget, health, time and whether they eat their schedule to be compact or loose. The app will then ask whether the customer like animals and if they answer yes then the app will show them pictures of different such as wombat, Tasmanian devil, dolphin, pademelon, platypus, whale and so on which they might want to see in their trip so that the app can suggest places of popular sighting of these animals. The app will also ask about the what kind of activities they want to engage more in this trip such as camping, visit museum and art galleries, mountain trekking and so on. The app will then show the customer few advise on how they can schedule their trip from day 1 to day last. If the customer does not like any of the options, they will be given 4 further options to choose from and write a key word. After this planning they will create a complete plan tog the final trip which they can follow. At the end of their trip, the app will ask the customer for their feedback so that can provide with more accurate option to the customer and other potential customers next time.

How we built it

Initially, we planned out our idea in the white board and in the Business model canvas that was provided. We used Android-studio to develop the prototype and used the software anaconda to design the network. The video is created with the help of Powtoon and Bee.

Challenges

It took us a long to time to finish planning the project as our idea was too broad. But we managed to pinpoint all the key points/issues within the given time-frame.

Accomplishments

This project was broad and took a lot of planning and understanding before proceeding to executing it. But we are really proud that we managed to finish it on time and were able to introduce a product that will help people to enjoy and make the most out of their trip.

What we learned from this project

From this project, we learnt that as a start-up, there is no 100% guarantee that this idea/project will be a success. There is always a certain about of risk that we need to take. Furthermore, we also learnt that since we are relying more on our key partners for sponsorship and financial aids, they are equally our priority as the customers. We need to maintain a healthy relationship with them to sustain in the market.

What's next for LoveTrip

In future, if this application is a huge success in Tasmania, we will plan to expand our operation first in Australia and then worldwide. We will also try to increase out users and form a strong bond with our key partners.

Cost Structure Our fixed cost is app maintenance cost and other variable costs are data collection fee, interface development fee, legal fee, patent fee and model design fee. Revenue Stream Our main source of revenue will be from our key partners as a form of advertising fee as well as commission per booking.
