Inspiration

Love Story (爱情故事) was inspired by the memories of my youth—by the long, chaotic summers when I toured across China with my band at seventeen. It was during one of those tours that I wrote this song, originally recorded as a pop-rock track capturing the freedom, fatigue, and raw emotion of that time. Years later, through AI, I was finally able to revisit and reimagine that moment. Using Suno AI, I remixed the original track into a synthwave version, turning its nostalgia into a futuristic pulse. The music video tells the story of four discarded objects—a cigarette box, a matchbox, a cassette tape, and a Polaroid camera—who come alive in an old record store and embark on a surreal journey through the past, present, and future of music. It’s both a tribute to the lost spirit of rock and a celebration of the new creative possibilities unlocked by AI.

What it does

Love Story is an AI-generated animated music video that follows four forgotten objects as they journey from a shuttered New York record store, to a rural tour bus, to a now-closed Beijing livehouse—once the beating heart of China’s rock scene—and finally to a futuristic music festival. It’s a time-traveling odyssey that celebrates lost youth, vanished places, and the rebirth of rock, blending analog memory with digital imagination to capture the universal rhythm of creation.

How we built it

The project was conceived, directed, and produced by Yun FNTSY as a solo creator. The music is a new Suno AI remix of the song I wrote at 17, reinterpreted in a synthwave aesthetic to echo memory meeting technology. All visual storytelling was generated through Veo3.1, Kling 2.5, and OpenArt, using carefully designed prompts and frame-by-frame guidance to animate the four stop-motion-style characters. The process became a dialogue between human memory and machine vision—AI as both collaborator and catalyst, transforming nostalgia into something new.

Challenges we ran into

Maintaining the visual continuity of four animated characters across multiple AI generations. Recreating on screen once-vibrant, now-vanished places—the record stores, livehouses, and music scenes that were once symbols of innovation and youth—through AI’s reimagined lens. As a solo creator, balancing every role—writer, director, animator, and editor—while shaping a coherent emotional journey from start to finish.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Turning a 17-year-old rock song I wrote on tour into a new AI music film feels like closing a circle — connecting the passion of my youth with the tools of the future.

Creating a fully AI-animated visual story rooted in real memories reminded me that technology can help us revisit what time has taken away.

Through four discarded objects, I found a way to speak about time, friendship, and artistic rebirth — not just as symbols, but as companions on this creative journey.

Most of all, I’m proud that Love Story proves something simple: AI doesn’t replace human creativity — it expands it, giving lost memories and music new ways to live again.

What we learned

Imperfection and unpredictability often produce the most honest art. This project reaffirmed that AI can carry emotion, not by imitating the past, but by helping it evolve.

Presenting Love Story at international AI film festivals and art-tech exhibitions. Developing a hybrid live performance where the AI-animated characters reappear onstage alongside human musicians. Continuing to experiment with AI remixing and animation, bridging human stories and machine imagination in new creative forms.
