Love Spot

San Francisco is a beautiful city, but it can be intimidating for a newbie like me. When I first started finding my way, I learned that all the lonely planet guides and "How to see SF like a local" listicles in the world don't draw you into makes this city special beyond the sun, the tech, and the beauty. It's easy enough to find the secret lookouts, the hidden dive bars and the Bahn Mi that's good enough to write home about, but what's hard is finding people to share these experiences with.

That's why we built Love Spot, a simple app designed to connect people around the places they love. Here's how it works:

  1. Users define five locations in and around their city that mean the most to them. It could be their favorite bar or restaurant, one of the dozens of hidden staircases around the city with breathtaking views, even something like a special park bench. They add a brief (<50 characters) description of what it is they love. We call this "leaving a card" at the location.
  2. When a San Franciscan stumbles on a new gem, they can open the app, tap the location on a map, and we'll surface a list of people with a special connection to that place, along with their description of what they love about it. Users can then reach out and connect.
