Lou Hei Your Way

CNY is approaching, but no one remembers Lou Hei phrases and their meaning, making the serving process socially awkward. Lou Hei Your Way gamifies not only Lou Hei serving but educates its symbolism!

Inspiration

Chinese New Year is approaching, and oftentimes we forget the Chinese phrases for Lou Hei - looking at the phone to read the phrases, making the whole crowd feel _ socially awkward _. It's embarrassing that we don’t even know our own cultural traditions. Looking at our phones while saying the phrases also isn’t very respectful or engaging, just serving with said phrases for the sake of sticking to tradition.

We were also inspired by a friend from Myanmar who works at banquets and needs to memorise these phrases for work during the Chinese New Year season.

Solution

Well look no further to **Lou Hei Your Way! A gamified way to not only memorising by reading aloud Chinese Phrases linked to each Lou Hei ingredients, but to learn the meaning and symbolism of Lou Hei!

Encouraged to play in a party! Players are given a guide to each Lou Hei ingredients, describing their symbolism and meaning of their linked chinese phrase.

Players will race against time to serve Lou Hei ingredients by reading aloud their Chinese Phrases in pinyin, progressing if they said it accurately. Going around to take turns to read all of them. Afterwards, they will come together to shout HUAT AHHHHHH!!!!!, learning how to serve Lou Hei Your Way!

How we built it

Unity 6.3 Whisper.Unity package using its large.bin LLM speech-to-text model.

Challenges we ran into

We were off to a rough start, waiting for hours for Unity 6.3 to download. Some of us were new to game dev and did not know how to use unity Freezing cold aircon temperature in the dining room. Researching Whisper.Unity to use Speech-to-text Sleep Deprivation

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Aaron being such a carry. Getting the LLM to actually be accurate and in reasonable processing speed in runtime.

What we learned

No experience in Unity can hinder a lot. Team Coordination is a must. How to use Whisper.Unity 3D modelling and drawing art assets
