Overview We’ve probably all learned about the importance of saying “no” when we’re presented with a bad choice. And we know how important it sometimes is to have a difficult conversation.

Unfortunately, knowing what we want to say doesn’t always mean that the conversation goes the way we want it to. Low-self esteem, social pressures, or a difficult subject matter all can make it hard to say what you really want to.

That’s where Lotus comes in. According to research, assertiveness is a skill that can be learned and developed over time. By practicing assertiveness in low-stakes environments, we can gain the skills to create more honest and productive conversations.

In some cultures, lotus flowers represent transformation. We hope that lotus will help transform your conversations into ones where you feel confident and empowered.

Screens Onboarding: the goal of the onboarding screens is to convince users that assertiveness is extremely important to clear communication, and it is a skill that can be improved through practice. We want to demonstrate that there is a clear need for this product, as well as give people an idea of what to expect from our app.

Profile: If we were planning on building out the app further, the profile section could be used to indicate the user’s age and preferences so that the appropriate modules could be recommended for them.

Resources: This tab would be used to inform users about new research, articles, and potentially even videos that addressed topics such as peer pressure, self-confidence, and negotiation. It would also include practical tips on how to improve communication skills and assertiveness.

Explore: on this page users could choose between featured and recommended modules to complete. Once they choose a scenario that they would like to practice, they will then get to specify their goals. Throughout the module, users will be presented with a number of different scenarios where they try to respond in a way that aligns with their previously-stated goals. If we were to develop this product further, we would include an option for audio playback so that users could listen to themselves respond to each scenario and even adjust their tone as necessary. Finally, they are presented with a completion screen to celebrate their efforts.
