Inspiration
Students frequently lose everyday items such as calculators, ID cards, wallets, books, earphones, keys, and bags on campus. Found items often remain with the finder because identifying the owner can be difficult, while lost-and-found information gets scattered across WhatsApp groups and notice boards.
What is LostLink?
LostLink is a campus-focused lost-and-found concept that connects people who have lost items with people who find them.
A student can create a Lost Report using details such as the item name, brand, colour, location, and approximate time. A finder can submit a Found Report with a photo and the location where the item was found.
LostLink then identifies possible matches using details such as description, brand, colour, location, and time.
Trust and Safety
A possible match is not treated as proof of ownership. Before contact is enabled, the claimant can privately provide an identifying detail that was not publicly displayed. If it matches, the ownership can be verified and a safe handover can be arranged.
Future Scope
LostLink is designed to start within a campus environment and could later be expanded to other communities and institutions.
