Inspiration
Many pets go missing or end up in shelters, and it can be difficult for owners to find them or for adopters to discover animals in need. We wanted to create a platform that connects lost pets, adoptable animals, and the local community in Philadelphia.
What it does
Lost&Pawunds helps users report missing pets, browse nearby animals available for adoption, and access data-driven insights about stray and lost animals. It’s a one-stop platform for pet reunions and adoptions.
How we built it
We used web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend, and a backend database to store reports and pet profiles. We also integrated mapping features and basic analytics to track trends in lost and stray animals.
Challenges we ran into
Collecting and displaying accurate, real-time data from multiple sources was difficult. Ensuring the platform is user-friendly while handling sensitive information about lost pets required careful design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a platform that not only lists adoptable pets but also provides actionable insights for the community. Users can now report lost pets, find adoptable animals nearby, and better understand trends in stray animals.
What we learned
We learned the importance of balancing functionality with usability, and how technology can positively impact pet welfare. Data visualization and mapping features can greatly enhance user engagement.
What's next for lost&pawunds
We plan to expand our database, improve real-time tracking of lost pets, and introduce features that allow shelters and users to communicate directly. Our goal is to make Philadelphia a safer and more connected city for pets and their owners.
