Lost ID Finder
Inspiration
We wanted to solve a common problem in our local community: helping people find their lost IDs. Many students around JKUAT main campus struggle with recovering important documents like school IDs, often requiring them to pay for replacements. To address this, we built a simple, secure platform to connect finders and owners of lost IDs.
What It Does
Lost ID Finder allows users to:
- Post Found IDs: Share details of IDs they've found.
- Search Lost IDs: Look up their lost IDs.
- Chat Anonymously: Communicate privately and securely without exchanging contact information.
This ensures convenience, privacy, and a seamless way to reconnect IDs with their rightful owners.
How We Built It
- Backend: Built using Django to create a secure API.
- Frontend: Developed with Vue 3 for a smooth, interactive user experience.
- Cloud Storage: ID images are stored securely in Cloudinary, while text data is safely indexed.
- Android App: An apk file for android user which is the most used type of phone around JKUAT was build using cordova. Downloadable in - Download IDFinder APK
The system ensures that ID details are only visible to the rightful owner when they perform a search with matching criteria.
Challenges We Ran Into
- Developing an anonymous and secure chat system that meets privacy requirements.
- Optimizing hosting to prevent exceeding memory capacity during deployment.
- Ensuring the user interface was intuitive and easy to use.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Bridging a Real-World Gap: The platform helps the local community by solving a pressing issue and I can confirm this is a real problem around my JKUAT university.
- First Product(No other project like this online)
- Privacy-First Design: Successfully created a secure way to reconnect IDs with their owners.
- Accessibility: Built a solution that’s easy to use and makes a tangible difference in people’s lives.
What We Learned
- Balancing privacy and functionality in communication systems is critical.
- Gained valuable experience in creating optimized, secure platforms for both web and mobile users.
- Improved skills in hosting, performance optimization, and user interface design.
