Inspiration
Lost Drawings was born from my daughter’s real drawings. She spends hours creating imaginative creatures, and one day I thought: what if her drawings could come to life in a game? The story reflects this idea: her creations are sucked into a magical television, and players must help her recover them. The project is deeply personal, transforming a child’s creativity into a playable adventure.
What it does
Lost Drawings is an adventure game where players meet the character of my daughter and join her on a quest to bring back her lost drawings. By exploring an island, solving simple challenges, and collecting puzzle coins, players can purchase special items that attract and capture each creature. The game mixes exploration, interactive dialogues, and cutscenes to create a poetic and emotional journey.
How we built it
The prototype was created in Meta Horizon Worlds using the Desktop Editor. Scripts were written in TypeScript to manage cutscenes, dialogues, and local player interactions. Blender was used to model assets, while the original art comes directly from my daughter’s hand-drawn creatures.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was making the gameplay personal and interactive for each player. Handling local cutscenes and dialogue per player in Horizon Worlds required many technical iterations. Balancing storytelling with mechanics was also a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a working prototype where real childhood drawings are transformed into living creatures in an interactive world. It’s both a technical and emotional achievement.
What we learned
We learned how to use Horizon Worlds’ scripting system to create local experiences, how to balance narrative and interaction, and how powerful personal stories can be when shared through games.
What's next for Lost Drawings
The next steps are to add more creatures, develop puzzles that match each drawing’s personality, and expand the multiplayer experience so that more players can help bring the drawings back to life together.
