Inspiration
We noticed students often lose or find items on campus but have no structured way to report or claim them. This portal solves that problem efficiently.
What it does
It allows users to post lost or found items with details and images, browse listings, and request to claim found items—all in one place.
How we built it
We used React for the frontend and Firebase Firestore for the backend, including image storage and real-time data sync. User authentication is also handled via Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
Structuring Firestore collections for scalability, handling image uploads, and managing claim requests with proper user validation were key challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a working full-stack app with real-time updates, image handling, and user authentication, all with a clean UI.
What we learned
We deepened our understanding of Firestore structure, React component communication, and how to handle asynchronous operations smoothly.
What's next for Lost and Found Portal
We'll add admin verification for claims, notification alerts, item status tracking, and explore launching it officially at our university.
