Inspiration
We got inspired to do this project due to the recent fire in Los Angeles which broke our hearts. So, given our backgrounds, we thought we could address this issue in our project.
What it does
The project is an advanced emergency response mapping system designed to help visualize and manage fire station locations and emergency incidents across Los Angeles. This interactive platform assists emergency responders in optimizing resource allocation and response times through a genetic algorithm.
How we built it
We built it using React, Vite to make the software while we used leaflet to get the map of LA. We also used JavaScript to create the genetic algorithm and implement it in our application. We used CSS for styling.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into was the lack of time we had to do appropriate research.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we have a functional system which has a genetic algorithm implemented into and a product which is usable and filled with necessary features.
What we learned
We learned that we need to base our decisions of real-world data as well as how working in a team boosts productivity. We also got to talk with mentors who shared their knowledge with us which helps us better programmers in general.
