Inspiration

"Don't just watch the story unfold. Become part of its history." Complex streams like tabletop RPGs, deep-dive lore discussions, and strategy games suffer from a massive retention killer: streamers constantly getting interrupted by new viewers asking the same repetitive questions ("What item is that?", "Who is this NPC?", "What are the rules?"). Furthermore, communities develop amazing lore, theories, and collaborative discoveries that get lost instantly in fast-moving chat. We wanted to build an autonomous, zero-friction AI co-pilot that answers chat lore questions instantly and preserves the community's collective memory through five interconnected ways Contextual game knowledge: Answer questions about characters, locations, objects, events and storylines. Persistent community memory: Remember discoveries, discussions and important events across multiple streams. Theory tracking: Connect clues, preserve competing theories and distinguish confirmed canon from speculation, disproven theories and unresolved mysteries. Community recognition: Recognise meaningful contributions through achievements, reputation and contributor identities. Streamer dashboard: Allow streamers to revisit mysteries, discoveries, theories and the people who contributed to them.

What it does

Lore Keeper transforms community participation from fleeting chat messages into lasting contributions. By helping newcomers understand the community, giving them a quicker path to belonging, and recognising meaningful participation, it encourages viewers to become active investigators and contributors rather than passive spectators. The objective isn't to gamify every interaction or turn the community into a competition. It's to make meaningful participation visible and valued. Lorekeeper Live is an intelligent real-time stream companion, dynamic OBS overlay, and community recognition engine.

Live Chat Integration: Monitors live Twitch chat via WebSockets to automatically identify lore and rule-related questions using semantic context.
Instant Overlay Ticker: Renders a gorgeous, animated glassmorphism notification ticker on the stream overlay answering viewer questions instantly without breaking the streamer's pacing.
Unlockable Stream Achievements: Viewers unlock specialized distinctions dynamically through stream participation, turning passive watchers into active contributors.
Community Detective Board: Features collective discovery tracking where multiple contributors receive joint recognition for solving mysteries, linking clues, and theorizing.Its defining feature is the ability to preserve and connect the collective understanding developed by a community over time.

The Four Distinction System

Viewers earn reputation and unlock achievements across streams through distinct contributions:

THE DETECTIVE — For making accurate predictions about upcoming plot points.
THE ARCHIVIST — For remembering and surfacing obscure, forgotten events from past streams.
THE CONNECTOR — For linking seemingly unrelated clues across complex storylines.
THE THEORIST — For developing compelling explanations and theories for open mysteries.

How we built it

Backend & Chat Listener: Built using Node.js / Express and WebSockets to listen to live Twitch chat events.
AI & Context Engine: Powered by OpenAI Codex to rapidly generate and optimize our prompt-chaining, semantic context-matching, and classification pipeline.
Frontend Overlay: Designed with Tailwind CSS for seamless integration into OBS as a Browser Source.

Challenges we ran into

Handling high-frequency Twitch chat events without hitting rate limits, tracking community attribution, and keeping overlay latency under 2 seconds was tricky. We used Codex to rapidly prototype a smart debouncing, filtering, and contribution-tracking system that ensures multi-user collaborative discoveries are credited fairly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a fully functioning production-grade Twitch OBS overlay and chat parser under tight hackathon constraints.
Successfully designed an engagement loop that rewards community members with distinct recognition (Detective, Archivist, Connector, Theorist) for keeping world lore alive.

What's next for Lorekeeper

While our current hackathon MVP delivers real-time chat Q&A and OBS overlay alerts, our long-term vision scales out the persistent community knowledge graph, separating established game canon from speculative viewer theories on a dedicated Community Detective Board .We used Codex to build a system where the audience becomes part of the world's evolving history.
