Lord Ipsum is a simple platforming / adventure game that we created over the course of this weekend with the game engine Godot.

The gameplay centers around the brave Lord Ipsum, who the player must help to both battle waves of enemy slimes, and collect the coins they drop.

Perhaps the most exciting part about the game is that the level is procedurally generated, every time that a new game is started. This offers a huge amount of replayability for the game.

The process of developing Lord Ipsum (which isn’t over yet!) was challenging and educational. Mitch and I are both not very experienced in game development, and neither of us had done a hackathon before this either. Because of this, we spent a lot of time getting slowed down by bugs that were primarily caused by our lack of experience, or later on in the event, by mild to moderate exhaustion.

Had we had more time, I think our number one priority would be polish, as the game still has a few bugs that can damage the experience. After polishing and possibly refactoring the code, more content would be the next step. We would like to add more enemies, more terrain types, more pickups, and generally just more to the experience of Lord Ipsum. All that being said, here is some gameplay footage.

All things considered, we are very proud of the work we managed to do on Lord Ipsum over the last 30 hours. We’re eager to continue our work on this project beyond Dandyhacks 2020, and we’re also looking forward to 2021!
