Inspiration
The idea for LoopLink came from observing how disconnected modern communities have become despite being digitally connected. The creator noticed three distinct unmet needs:
- Friend groups lacked effective tools to coordinate events beyond social media.
- Neighborhoods had no streamlined way to share resources or organize hyperlocal activities.
- Small teams and organizations needed lightweight community coordination tools outside of traditional work platforms.
LoopLink was envisioned as a unified platform to address all three needs while offering role-based access and seamless group management.
What it does
LoopLink is a role-based community platform designed to support three types of social circles:
- Friend Loops: Private spaces for friends to plan events, share updates, chat, and coordinate group decisions.
- Neighborhood Loops: Hyperlocal hubs for sharing items, finding and creating local events, and staying informed with map-based interactions.
- Organization Loops: Semi-professional spaces for small teams to manage resources, assign roles, track activity, and stay organized.
Key features include:
- Real-time group chat
- QR code-based loop joining
- A central activity feed
- Role-based UI that adapts per user permissions
- Interactive maps for neighborhood loops
How it was built
LoopLink was developed using a modern React + TypeScript stack, prioritizing modularity and scalability.
Frontend:
- Built using React with TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS for design and responsiveness
- Context API with custom hooks for state and modal management
- Built using React with TypeScript
Backend & Infra:
- Supabase for real-time database, authentication, and sync
- Leaflet.js for map-based neighborhood loops
- WebSocket features for chat and activity updates
- QR code generation via client-side libraries
- Supabase for real-time database, authentication, and sync
A custom Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) system was built to render features dynamically based on the user’s role (Admin, Member, Viewer), ensuring secure access across the application.
Challenges faced
Managing multiple modals (QR, Chat, Camera, Subscription) required building a centralized modal state management system from scratch to avoid visual and behavioral conflicts.
Adapting the UI dynamically based on role-specific permissions across dozens of components introduced complexity in both layout and navigation design.
Maintaining real-time sync while ensuring data integrity across multiple active sessions and devices was a constant challenge. Optimizing for responsiveness across screen sizes also required rebuilding certain components from the ground up.
Accomplishments
Despite being a solo project, LoopLink successfully implemented:
- A fully working multi-role access system
- Real-time messaging, item sharing, and activity tracking
- QR-based onboarding for seamless loop invites
- Responsive layouts for mobile and desktop
- A structured layout that separates activity feed, action center, and loop-specific navigation
The platform provides a clean, intuitive experience while supporting multiple use cases—from neighborhood resource sharing to friend group coordination.
What was learned
Developing LoopLink provided deep, hands-on experience with:
- Modular state management using custom React hooks and context
- Building and enforcing role-based permissions across the frontend
- Implementing real-time synchronization and activity feeds using Supabase
- Designing accessible, responsive UIs adaptable to multiple community types
- Architecting modal-heavy interfaces with robust open/close controls and background effects
This project also reinforced the importance of performance tuning and user flow simplification in community-centered platforms.
What's next for LoopLink
Planned future improvements include:
- Native mobile apps for iOS and Android
- Enhanced analytics for organizational loops
- Smart reminders and borrowing return logic for shared items
- A hyperlocal community marketplace
- Calendar integrations and AI-based event suggestions
- Deeper integrations with productivity and messaging platforms
LoopLink will continue evolving into a secure, real-time-first platform for managing modern social groups and hyperlocal communities.
