Inspiration
Many people get stuck in mental loops during tough moments - hard conversations, big decisions, or periods of uncertainty. Existing tools often feel either too heavy, like journaling or therapy apps, or too generic, like advice generators.
We believed clarity could be created through a few focused steps, without storing personal data or relying on external systems.
That belief became LoopBack.
What it does
LoopBack is a human-centered reflection tool that helps users:
- Clearly describe a situation
- Identify and name their emotions
- Clarify what truly matters to them
- Generate small, actionable next steps
The experience follows a simple four-step flow designed to turn emotional overwhelm into concrete forward movement.
All data stays local in the browser, no accounts, no servers, no tracking.
How I built it
LoopBack is a fully client-side web app designed for clarity, privacy, and ease of use.
Key aspects include:
- A guided, step-by-step interaction model.
- Deterministic logic to generate meaningful next steps based on user input.
- Local storage for saving reflections without external dependencies.
- A minimal, distraction-free UI designed for calm focus.
The goal was to create something lightweight, fast, and respectful of the user’s mental space.
Challenges I ran into
- Designing emotional flows without overwhelming users.
- Balancing structure with flexibility so the tool feels supportive, not restrictive.
- Creating meaningful outputs without using AI APIs or external services.
- Ensuring the UI remained clean and readable across all steps.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- A privacy-first approach where all data remains on the user’s device.
- Clear, intuitive interaction design that requires no onboarding.
- A complete end-to-end user experience built within the hackathon timeframe.
What I learned
- Simplicity increases trust, especially for emotionally sensitive tools.
- Small, intentional interactions can create meaningful impact.
- Structured reflection can be powerful even without AI or cloud services.
What's next for LoopBack
- Mobile-first refinements.
- Experimenting with optional AI assistance while keeping privacy intact.
- Optional exports and sharing formats.
