Inspiration

Forests are an important part of natural resources. However, current environmental conditions, unfortunately, have made the occurrence of wildfires more frequent, causing sizable areas of forest loss each year, e.g. California fires occurred in November 2018 and this year. Early prevention of forest fires is one of the important means to protect natural resources and people.

What it does

Using a combination of real-time image data along with batch weather, humidity, and past location incident data, we are deducing the "confidence" with which a wildfire can positively happen and our system will alert the residents and the city officials once a particular threshold is crossed.

How we built it

Google Cloud Platform, Firebase (hosting & messaging) , Python (SciKit, Pandas libraries), YOLO v3, React, and Blender for the front-end. Balsamiq for Mobile front-end wireframing.

Challenges we ran into

The whole tech stack except Python was new to us so had to adapt quickly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Using technology for a social cause.

What we learned

YOLO v3, CNN, Wildfire statistics, GCP

What's next for LooneyTunes Xtinguish

Commercialize it or make it a part of the Google Earth package.
