Loomix-Care – Smart Patient Monitoring & Medication Adherence System
Inspiration
Millions of elderly and chronically ill patients struggle with missed medications, undetected falls, and emotional distress. Most existing healthcare solutions solve only one of these problems, forcing caregivers to rely on multiple devices and manual monitoring. We wanted to create an affordable, integrated solution that provides real-time patient monitoring while reducing the burden on caregivers.
What it does
Loomix-Care is an IoT-based healthcare system that combines a wearable smart band and an automated medication dispenser.
The wearable continuously monitors stress levels using a GSR sensor and detects movement and falls using an MPU6050 sensor. The medication dispenser automatically releases pills at scheduled times using a servo motor. Patient data is synchronized to Firebase, allowing caregivers to monitor health remotely through a live dashboard.
If a fall, abnormal stress, or missed medication is detected, the system immediately sends prioritized alerts to caregivers and family members.
How we built it
Our system consists of:
- ESP32-based IoT controller
- GSR sensor for stress monitoring
- MPU6050 for movement and fall detection
- Servo-based smart pill dispenser
- DS3231 RTC for medication scheduling
- RFID/Button confirmation system
- Firebase Realtime Database
- Web dashboard for caregivers
- AI-based behavioral analysis for event classification
Challenges we ran into
- Integrating multiple sensors into a single IoT platform.
- Reducing false alarms by distinguishing stress events from falls.
- Synchronizing hardware with Firebase in real time.
- Designing a low-cost yet reliable medication dispensing mechanism.
What we learned
This project strengthened our knowledge of embedded systems, IoT, cloud integration, healthcare automation, and real-time data processing. We also learned how AI can improve healthcare by providing meaningful insights instead of raw sensor data.
What's next for Loomix-Care
Future enhancements include:
- GPS tracking for patients
- Smart wound monitoring
- Predictive health risk analysis using machine learning
- LLM-powered personalized caregiver recommendations
- Integration with hospitals and electronic health records
We believe Loomix-Care can make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and proactive for elderly patients and caregivers.
